Look for Board Certification and Credentials Make sure the doctor is board-certified in endocrinology or internal medicine. Firsthand referrals often lead to trusted and patient-focused providers. Certification shows they’ve completed specialized training and passed rigorous exams.

As you can imagine, get referrals from healthcare workers, emergency departments, primary care, cancer care hospital, you know, internal medicine to our service. And that’s about half of our referrals. It might have to do with a sensitivity around mental health. That’s a question too, Alex.

I have 24,500 veterans on our caseload, 14,000 individuals with diagnosed mental health issue, 8,500 with an alcohol and substance abuse. And that referral can be done in real time, a soft handoff. I would hope a referral would go to what’s called an ADRC, and it’s called an Aging and Disability Resource Center.
