The insight started when Carmen, an orthopedic surgeon-researcher, and Katie, a physical therapist- researcher participated in ride-alongs with EMS providers to patient’s homes. And yet, after assisting the older adult to their feet, the EMS providers would leave. I think, as providers, we don’t get to see that.

I talk to women 75 and older or something like it’s my job as your PCP to recommend tests that I think will lead to more good than to harm. And so we recruited 546 women and they were from 137 different PCPs. And so then they saw their PCP. We did email PCPs that they would be coming in early for the study.

If we can be a little bit more holistic and think through what are the medicines that are going to provide the greatest bang for your buck and get rid of the stuff that probably isn’t going to do anything. They may have a long relationship with that cardiologist, so it requires some collaboration.
