We really spent a lot of time helping the clinicians see that a patient’s illness, understanding and prognostic awareness was just as important as their pain scale, their pain score. People would present with horrible opportunistic infections, not just pneumocystis pneumonia, but CNS infections with toxoplasmosis and wasting syndrome, of course. They were seriously ill and had a chance to get to know. And the goal about treating reversible illness that we tried to put in with that got taken out.
