This included additional classes in medical ethics as well as a scholarly project examining the medical ethics of a specific clinical situation. Medicine involves many extremely ethically challenging situations.

So, we formed this organization called Pain and Palliative Care Society in the Northern Kerala city of Kalakkad based in the government medical college. But when I retired from government service, I left Kalakkad in 2002.

I came from a family where you didn’t write things down, somebody could find them and hold you to them or all of that kind of stuff. There’s a little paranoia in the family for good reason. I am not a writer naturally. And I was even the kid who didn’t write her parents from camp. So sometimes I don’t write.
