Methods: We queried the 2021 Virginia All-Payer Claims Database (APCD) to estimate panel size by identifying the number of unique patients seen by each PCP. The count, median, mean, and standard deviation of the number of patients seen by PCPs were calculated.

Context: Continuity of care between a patient and their primary care practitioner (PCP) is a cornerstone of primary care (PC) and is associated with many positive health outcomes including decreased utilization of ER services and lower costs for some populations. This effect grows to 23% lower costs for patients 85 or older.

Context: Continuity of care between a patient and their primary care practitioner (PCP) is a cornerstone of primary care (PC) and is associated with many positive health outcomes. Patients were attributed to the PCPs with whom they had the most visits in 2018. These patients had 54% of 2019 visits with their PCP.
