Eric: So probably a very uncommon circumstance where an outpatient provider who’s had this conversation, who’s known the individual for a very long time actually goes to the ICU, communicates with the family and potentially communicates with the ICU providers about who this person is, what’s important to them.

Chaplains can do an assessment of the spirituality of the individual and then they use interventions that are part of their discipline and those interventions are tailored to the individual’s spiritual and religious needs of the person that they’re caring for. They followed them during the course of their hospital stay.
