CDC’s proposed 2022 practice guideline takes a more flexible, patient-specific approach relying on clinicians’ judgment rather than applying “inflexible standards of care across patient populations.” The guideline is not applicable to the treatment of pain related to sickle cell disease, or palliative or end-of-life care.
