We know that nine out of ten children that go to the ER do not go to children’s hospital ERs. I think it’s very important, almost an obligation, for us to provide outreach and education to our community ED colleagues so that they are given the tools needed to provide the right imaging to the right patient at the right time.

His transport from his house to our department had been less than ten minutes and the pre-hospital team had done an excellent job of intubating this patient and establishing an IV to begin resuscitation efforts. As the cardiologist and our ER team continued with resuscitation efforts, I went to the family room to speak to this patient's wife.

And we would provide ongoing longitudinal care to them in the home, much like the Mount Sinai Visiting Doctors programs, and other programs like that. And the treatments are different than what hospice might provide in the home setting. Patients will come into the ER, they bypass the inpatient experience entirely, and go straight home.
