When a critical illness or injury occurs, then, we should all be thankful that we live within a society where emergent, life-saving medical care is available. Instead of providing emergent care, it seems I spend at least half of my emergency room time now playing doctor to chronic illnesses. And our ER is not alone.

I dedicate this to each of you who have cared for or are currently caring for an ill parent or family member. Although this may seem like it should be the standard, you would be surprised at just how many elderly patients present to our emergency department alone. As customary, I thanked them for being in the ER with their mother.

I have so many questions, and I promise we’re going to get to the management of anxiety and serious illness. Summary Transcript Summary “Anxiety is a lot like a toddler. It was my way of acknowledging and validating their efforts in helping their ill parent in a time of need. It had presented soon after she had eaten a BLT sandwich for lunch. On review of her previous visits, I had noticed that she had never been to our ER before. Of putting to the side their own needs and demands.

So I actually was doing a grand rounds as my final presentation here at Yale for my fellowship on the role of music in host pice and palliative medicine.
