When thinking about emergency room settings, even, one can easily correlate the words of Webster to what one would necessitate to be a situation requiring emergency medical treatment. Instead of providing emergent care, it seems I spend at least half of my emergency room time now playing doctor to chronic illnesses.

We walked down to the emergency room and reviewed his chart. Then things started to get a little bit different… His chest x-ray had some peripheral infiltrates, and the emergency department providers ordered a CT scan. Had the ED not ordered a chest CT, would I have tested this patient for COVID-19?

I returned my gaze to this patient and gave her a smile as I approached her bedside. My response words--actively thanking him for taking the time to accompany his elderly mother to the Emergency Department--were something I had been saying for the past few years to adult children who accompanied their elder parent to our department.

What’s the connection and why?

If you believe the evidence for efficacy to manage symptoms like neuropathic pain, how do you even start to think about recommending these products to patients? And then I met a patient in clinic once who asked me a lot of really intelligent questions about medical cannabis, what it does. That put me in the emergency room.
