I am wondering whether it’s the conversations and preparation that’s primary care providers and outpatient providers are having with a lot of these patients and families to either prevent an ICU admission or potentially address their goals, such that they don’t go into the ICU. So elderly people who aspirated, got pneumonia, had an mi, didn’t get hauled off to the emergency room on an ambulance crew so they could die in the ER. And so I thought about it a while, called, and sure enough, they brought him up to the emergency room. And it’s not the same, but it does provide information.

I was helped into a wheelchair kind of rushed to the emergency room, which was not far away because I was on the medical school campus. We are really trained to treat it as a purely physical sensation that you can rate on a scale of zero to 10 with specific tools. I heard this loud click. I couldn’t move any of my body.
