People saw that there were people who needed to have supportive care, didn’t need to have the level of nursing that was provided in nursing homes, and there was money to be made. But why I decided to look at medical and mental health care and assisted living. Well, we’ve got geriatricians here.

Check out some of their recent work, including: Dr. Holt-Lunstad’s and Dr. Perissinotto’s powerful perspective piece in the New England Journal of Medicine which provides a clinical framework for addressing loneliness and social isolation. I think I feel more comfortable as a provider in trying to support people in their isolation.

It was designed to really balance what Medicaid at the time was to provide nursing homes and Medicare is obviously health insurance. The long-term care is being actually provided in the community at a much higher rate than what the formal system provides. But, what you need is a community-based game there.
