People saw that there were people who needed to have supportive care, didn’t need to have the level of nursing that was provided in nursing homes, and there was money to be made. I think I feel more comfortable as a provider in trying to support people in their isolation.

So elderly people who aspirated, got pneumonia, had an mi, didn’t get hauled off to the emergency room on an ambulance crew so they could die in the ER. And so I thought about it a while, called, and sure enough, they brought him up to the emergency room. And it’s not the same, but it does provide information.

It was designed to really balance what Medicaid at the time was to provide nursing homes and Medicare is obviously health insurance. The long-term care is being actually provided in the community at a much higher rate than what the formal system provides. But, what you need is a community-based game there.
