Because how that is approached can have lasting effects on relationships, unfortunately. For some people, it might be their doctor, especially people who have a more traditional relationship where they really defer to the healthcare provider judgment. Or have electronic health record prompts so people remember to ask it?

And the actors were blinded to whether this was a primary care doctor or a chat bot answering them. The results were that the chat bots got the diagnoses right and had an escalation strategy that was better than the doctors, as judged by blinded specialists reading the transcripts. They had no idea.
