Helene highlighted that even wealthy communities and well-financed and well-educated populations can be caught off guard and devastated. You have all seen it over the past week. The devastation that wrecked Asheville, NC, amongst so many other areas along Hurricane Helene’s pathway. The destruction was truly apocalyptic. It happens.

I found this to be true in my life, and I think that for those in healthcare professions with prolonged training, it can be even more difficult. I rented until I was 32 years old and finally decided to purchase a home during the COVID-19 pandemic , and even then, it was a very difficult decision to make. This is no easy feat.
