So, with this chapter, I hope to briefly touch on the basics of market investing and describe why simple diversification and index fund investing are the most effective ways for busy clinical physicians and healthcare providers to invest with the expectation of long-term gains. Helene highlighted that even wealthy communities and well-financed and well-educated populations can be caught off guard and devastated. An emergency fund should be used for emergencies only (car wreck, unemployment, unexpected healthcare expenses, etc.) Perhaps the lesson lies in collegiality, comradery, and helping your fellow man.
