I believe that as clinicians, educators and supervisors, we are called to guide this shift. Reclaiming Time and Attention Primary care professionals may log more than eleven hours a day, over half of it in the electronic health record (Menchaca, 2025). Below, I share three reasons why.

So I would say that a lot of the education we received were on cutting edge research and the latest drugs in clinical trials, the latest cellular therapies that are coming out. And I’ve been to some presentations that use that same breaking bad news model for having these driving conversations, as are used in palliative care. Emmy: So I think shifting that a little bit is what helped me do a lot of the education that I do to therapists and physicians, just to have it on their radar. Absolutely.

Today we have a star-studded lineup, including Lexy Torke of Indiana University, who discusses her RCT of a chaplaincy intervention for surrogates of patients in the ICU , published in JPSM and plenary presentation at AAHPM/HPNA. In addition to that long list, I was also a chaplain educator.

It could be in housing, it could be a standalone senior center, home delivered meals, nutrition counseling and nutrition education done by registered dieticians. And that referral can be done in real time, a soft handoff. It’s really the nutrition program, which is inclusive of congregate meals. I think most states have them.

There’s also education that goes with it, educating, like, what does that mean? Ideally the conversation would happen before, but also clinicians were able to make referrals to facilitators. So we have to collect what information we have available from Health Information exchange and electronic health records.
