Context: Concerns about family practice are well-founded, but also negatively biased. This can fuel poor impressions among medical students and dispirit practicing family physicians. The AFMC surveys all graduating medical students in Canada (1,838 responses and response rate of 60% in 2022).

Comparatively, physicians in general practice were more likely to see patients for mental health, chronic disease, and preventive care. There was a higher rate of referrals to dermatology, surgery, and family practice from boutique clinics. Results from the 2023 data update will be available for the presentation.
