Setting & Population: Six practice-based research networks recruited patients aged 18-65 years with upper respiratory symptoms. Patients were recruited from primary care practices, emergency rooms and urgent care centers, and the community (e.g., recruitment flyers).

Objectives To assess overall medication adherence as an indicator for emergency room (ER) visits, hospitalizations, and mortality among elderly patients. In 2017, 61,668 (36.0%) patients visited the ER, 44,910 (26.2%) were hospitalized in internal medicine wards, and 13,305 (7.8%) were hospitalized in surgical wards.
