When should people get palliative care? We can’t possibly meet the needs of all people with newly diagnosed serious illness. She’s trained in pulmonary critical care and palliative care. She’s a palliative care researcher. I think that palliative care in the ICU is an absolute important area.

We do conversations on goals of care and advanced care planning as well. This is the non-medical part of someone being ill. This is not that.

Our second guest, Meredith Greene, is a geriatrician and researcher who focuses on care of older adults living with HIV, in the US and Africa. And I also read that 1 out of 10 newly diagnosed HIV cases are in older adults. The HIV clinics also served as primary care.
