Should eligibility and access be determined by clinician referral? If we move away from clinician referrals as the means by which people get access, how do we keep the clinicians engaged, and not enraged? We can’t possibly meet the needs of all people with newly diagnosed serious illness. By diagnosis? By prognosis?

Love to talk about also in the serious illness population. Emmy: So that older person or person with maybe terminal illness or developing impairments, it might make sense for them to just keep driving because they don’t have a good replacement. Somebody who’s older, maybe just diagnosed them with very mild dementia.

So, for example, everyone who was diagnosed with an advanced or metastatic lung cancer had a prognosis on the order of months. And now when I think about the clinic at Duke, when we’re really running on all cylinders, we can get ourselves up to a five, six, seven week wait for a new palliative care referral. You’re right.
