But, you know, I’ve talked to a lot of palliative care providers, a lot of people caring for people with serious illness. I see this in the hospital when I’m doing addiction medicine consults. Like if a person has an issue, struggle with alcohol, I’m not their alcohol provider, but I may be their opioid provider.

Through a series of events, I started working as a consultant to the Department of Corrections in around 2006, and I was assigned to the California Medical Facility. And that grew into a group of volunteers coming back and at least providing support groups, giving those men a place where they could talk at least. Michele: Yep.
