primary palliative care interventions seem to fail, whereas specialized palliative care interventions have a relatively robust track record of success. I think that study was really important, especially I think the message that I give people is you can do something as simple as calling a consultation and improve quality of life months later.

So elderly people who aspirated, got pneumonia, had an mi, didn’t get hauled off to the emergency room on an ambulance crew so they could die in the ER. And he had a deadly fear of being institutionalized, based on his previous present experience. That makes it really special for them and for me. His hands were gone.
