Should eligibility and access be determined by clinician referral? By diagnosis? If we move away from clinician referrals as the means by which people get access, how do we keep the clinicians engaged, and not enraged? I have never myself called a palliative care consult as a trainee because we didn’t have one.

Our field really lacks specificity in the terms that we use, and I think we really don’t know how chronic cancer pain, let’s say, a few years out from that initial diagnosis differs from, let’s say, chronic low back pain.
