Opposition from a coalition of the tobacco lobby and the recovery community prevailed to kill the bill. However, many towns, including Portland, South Portland, Falmouth, Brunswick, Bangor, Bar Harbor and Hallowell, passed ordinances banning flavored tobacco in their communities.

Both Secretary Kennedy and Commissioner Makary have proposed strategies to mitigate the “revolving door” between the government and the industries they regulate. The agency has also delayed vaccine advisory panels. DFA teaches physicians and medical students advocacy skills and does advocacy at a state and federal level.
