Why is that important in the emergency room? Actually, our training as emergency physicians is mostly to resuscitate to acute care. So Tammie developed something called EPIC for Emergency medicine, which is a curriculum that was one of the first ways that I think palliative care got spread in our community.

Alex: We’ve got a lot to talk about…what states are doing and cities are doing to support older adults in the community. It was designed to really balance what Medicaid at the time was to provide nursing homes and Medicare is obviously health insurance. But, what you need is a community-based game there.

Eric: … you’re getting paid for individual encounters, not going to people’s homes, not being paid for all of the additional support that’s needed for comprehensive cancer care. Whereas with comprehensive dementia care, what you really need is a lot of the support that is delivered in the community. Diane: Yeah.
