So we take that science and we apply it to something that’s very messy and chaotic, like a human being or a community or a population. It was like kind of a co op with this common space that different groups could rent for events and meetings and things like that. I think it started off from a need, a hunger in the community.

Through a series of events, I started working as a consultant to the Department of Corrections in around 2006, and I was assigned to the California Medical Facility. And we found out in our work that something like 70 or 80% of patients with dementia who have surgery come from the community, who are coming from home. And that these serious illness conversations ought to involve more palliative care consultations, I think. We’re available, palliative care. Alex: Mm-hmm.
