There were a number of opportunities to be involved in medical oncology and doing medical oncology rotations as a medical student, as an internal medicine residential. And sort of a few years ago, we would sometimes see referrals a bit later than we would have liked. There really was very little. So I think education is key.

How do you do that in clinical practice, in a way that doesn’t take five hours of sitting down with somebody? So I mean, I had referrals from as far as Canadian Arctic North, of people who were interested in doing dignity therapy. We want to be seen for the entirety of who we are as human beings.

And we got this as a hospice referral, and could we, you know, take her on and support her in hospice? This is just because this arose organically in clinical practice as a way of balancing these underlying competing ethical issues. And the family members said, okay, now’s the time we need to honor her request.
