The question I would ask is, how helpful is that in our clinical practice? If they’ve said they had a traumatic experience receiving a diagnosis. And so in terms of, am I looking to put a DSM diagnosis to someone? What would be the benefit to myself, or hopefully for them to add a DSM diagnosis? I wonder why?

Our field really lacks specificity in the terms that we use, and I think we really don’t know how chronic cancer pain, let’s say, a few years out from that initial diagnosis differs from, let’s say, chronic low back pain. So this is about two and a half, three years out from leukemia diagnosis. And the point of that is that so many people, in my experience, and I’m sure it’s the same initial diagnosis of cancer, that’s the last thing that I want to talk about. So most of us in primary care, it’s probably even worse.
