SUD screening is not universally done in primary care (PC). In our institution, screenings are completed for patients ≥15 years during well visits; those not presenting for well visits and under 15 may represent missed opportunities. No patients were referred to the SUD Clinic.

I, for example, had one patient, I remember during my fellowship, I was in geriatrics clinic and had a very well read patient who came in and was reading a New York Times article, I think in the well section at one point. I don’t practice clinically in outpatient settings, and often the folks I’m seeing are there for other kinds of issues. Eric: Let’s say I have a panel of older adults that I’m seeing, or a palliative care outpatient clinic. We and many others have tried to come up with a short, validated screening tool.
