Dr. Barnes and colleagues conducted semistructured interviews at one academic pouch clinic and inflammatory bowel disease center with 15 patients who had undergone IPAA for ulcerative colitis. We clinicians should strive to improve care and base our treatment plans on each patient’s individual needs.

So, the consult will come in and then we’ll do what we call a clinical bedside evaluation, where we’ll go and see the patient at the bedside. So, we use that information to formulate a treatment plan. Here at UW Health, we call it our Swallow Service. We actually have even subspecialization, which is kind of fun.
