CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Pain — United States, 2022. Expected clinical benefits should be weighed against risks before beginning therapy. ER/LA opioids should be “reserved for severe, continuous pain.”. Methadone should not be the first choice for an ER/LA opioid. RR-3):1–95.
