I am grateful for the many people and classmates who helped babysit so that I could make it to the lab and thrive as a medical student. I am grateful for my sister who stepped in to help once I became a third year medical student and needed to spend more time away on rotations.

I'm not going to lie, after two years of working in the urgent care setting, being in the ER was super chill for me. I had never rotated in it when I was a medical student, so it was kind of cool being behind the curtain. I enjoyed the shift work, the variety of cases, and being able to have time for a little fun.

It’s that mixture of intimacy and vulnerability, of shared clinical experiences, that fosters a sense of belonging. We definitely draw on the sciences, on biomedical science, on clinical trials, on pharmaceutical design and all sorts of things like that. There’s something magical that happens in small group storytelling.

Then, it was like, well, it does as well as, and now, better than humans passing the medical boards, passing the law boards, doing great on the SAT, all that stuff. And you say, “Okay, that’s fine, but can it really … What about a real live clinical situation?” That is the first clinical use case.
