Gretchen: Yeah, I think probably the underlying story here is that I’m really good at doing negative randomized clinical trials, but there is a good thing about doing a big clinical trial, which is that you get tons of data even if you don’t end up with the result that you want. And that’s how we connected.

And when I was getting my PhD, I wanted to find something that spoke to me, and I had been doing clinical work in nursing homes. A lot of assisted livings, it’s acted like it’s not even a choice, that it’s usually the default is you go to the emergency room. I wish we did a better job.

Like, do you think maybe, you know, let’s educate. And because of this encounter, this patient went to the emergency room twice due to having panic episodes that felt like heart attacks. We do a lot of clinical focused discussions. But if I were in the PCP setting or clinic, again, I would definitely use it.

I had the tenacity and education to try to figure this out. I found it to be an incredibly hard journey. I had a supportive spouse.

That’s focused on older adults who are too frail to get into clinic. In that clinical experience, we saw a lot of older adults who would develop acute illness, often exacerbations of their chronic conditions. We relied on our clinical experience as geriatricians, that home-based primary care experience. Bruce: Sure.
