Medical societies and hospitals are weighing in on periprocedural concerns in patients taking GLP-1s who need procedures or surgeries. That’s according to two internists who work closely with hospitalized patients who take GLP-1s. “I would not recommend starting a GLP-1 in the hospital.” Nor should they be.

These are patients who had a pre-existing chronic disease, very broadly defined. COPD, heart failure, solid oncology, hematologic malignancy, dementia, ALS, interstitial lung disease, several others. Kate: It was done in 10 hospitals, 17 ICUs in Atrium Health down in North Carolina. Also the same hospital system?

Eric 13:00 I also love that too, because even on our inpatient ballot of care consult service, whenever somebody says that they’re unrepresented or they don’t have a surrogate, we never believe that until we usually look up. Patient just got discharged from the hospital, just coming back from the skilled nursing facility.
