McDonald shared more about a pilot model announced last year that would create a pathway for exceptionally qualified international medical graduates (IMGs) successfully completing ACGME-accredited subspecialty fellowship to become Board eligible in Internal Medicine and subspecialties.

Several members of the group agreed on the need for an increased number of endocrinology fellowship positions to address a shortage of specialists in the field and the relatively higher number of physicians who do not match into a program (see NRMP data ). These physicians currently do not have a pathway to Board Eligibility.
