In 2019 we discussed the basics of why patients wait a long time to hear back, get through on the phone lines, or be seen with a primary care doctor. This has led to a “shortage” of primary care doctors, both in Rhode Island and nationally. In Rhode Island, the wait continues to be much longer.

I love family medicine because as family physicians, we can be trained to provide care for patients in many different settings. Some family doctors work in a residency training program where they may see patients in the hospital, out of the hospital, and deliver babies.
