I'm not going to lie, after two years of working in the urgent care setting, being in the ER was super chill for me. It's crazy how when I started this blog in 2013, she was a tiny little elementary aged kid and now she's only a couple of years away from graduating high school and heading to college. Time flies!

We know that nine out of ten children that go to the ER do not go to children’s hospital ERs. We really do have so many resources at our disposal, and it is very hard for them to know everything about kids and adults while practicing in locations where they don’t have these consultants available 24/7.

So, again, to reinforce, since IEMs have very specific non specific presentations, the goal in the ER is not to specifically diagnose the IEM. So those would be a plasma sample for plasma amino acids, organic acids, acyl carnitine, other compounds, which your friendly geneticist, when you consult them will be incredibly happy you got.
