Reported motivations for urgent GP visits included fear, encouragement by relatives, psychological distress, and pain. Most cases (82%) were managed entirely within the practice.

Studies from the USA showed that adding one GP per 10,000 inhabitants was associated with 2-5 fewer deaths 5 , 6 and 4 fewer hospitalizations 5 annually. 11 , 13 Over time, GPs come to know their patients well.
