We put a couple extra things in place to really try to reschedule appointments, and this was telehealth. Getting the appointments for outpatient palliative care was a challenge, it sounded like. Also, how many appointments did they have in a week for new visits? I’m just stunned even writing that! We’ve come so far as a field.

So, basically, with a stepped care model, the goal is to tailor care delivery to the patient’s needs while at the same time utilizing less clinician resources. That’s a lot of appointments that we have to account for over time. There was a difference, though, in hospice utilization, right? That is correct.

We were the highest utilizers of telemedicine in the whole UCSF health system at that time which we’re very proud of. ” Why don’t we say, “All of healthcare is dangerous.” I think at least we like to think of ourselves as ahead of the curve. Now I think it should be what is the very best for our patients.
