The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) is committed to enhancing the quality of health care by certifying internists and subspecialists who demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for excellent patient care. The Program begins in September 2025 and concludes at the ABMS Conference in September 2026.

This is now being reviewed by the American Board of Medical Specialties, which oversees ABIM. Dr. Johnson, MD, FACP, FIDSA , Senior Vice President for Academic and Medical Affairs, led a discussion with the Infectious Disease Board on community practice in the specialty to create a more inclusive understanding of its role and scope.
