Why is that important in the emergency room? Actually, our training as emergency physicians is mostly to resuscitate to acute care. So Tammie developed something called EPIC for Emergency medicine, which is a curriculum that was one of the first ways that I think palliative care got spread in our community.

Whereas with comprehensive dementia care, what you really need is a lot of the support that is delivered in the community. My guess is out in the community there’s more pressure to initiate dialysis for various reasons. But more and more patients end up in emergency rooms and ICUs and they’re unrepresented. It may not be.
