Essentially we’re testing the early integrated palliative care model, which is monthly visits with a specialty trained palliative care physician or advanced practice provider for patients who are diagnosed with advanced non small cell lung cancer. The patient refuses to ever talk about the fact that this illness could take their life.

I think that’s something we’ve seen even with the most recent issues that came out, not new issues, but came to the surface with the racial reckoning that we saw in 2020 related to murders and deaths and killings and that sort of stuff that helps to reshape how we refer to different groups of individuals in our community.

Poetry helps us grapple with our own experiences of illness. Redwing: When you’re diagnosed with cancer, the first thing you think about is when you’re going to die. I had planned to start doing in-person poetry sessions with cancer patients at the beginning of 2020. To let it go. . Why not live as long as possible?
