So Tammie developed something called EPIC for Emergency medicine, which is a curriculum that was one of the first ways that I think palliative care got spread in our community. We adapted a small group of us, Vital Talk for emergency medicine, which is communication skills training using simulation. And so we use that.

Alex: We’ve got a lot to talk about…what states are doing and cities are doing to support older adults in the community. It was designed to really balance what Medicaid at the time was to provide nursing homes and Medicare is obviously health insurance. But, what you need is a community-based game there.

Don’t get me wrong, the evidence points to cost savings, but as Chris Callahan and Kathleen Unroe pointed out in a JAGS editorial in 2020 “in comprehensive dementia care models, savings may accrue to Medicare, but the expenses accrue to a fluid and unstable network of local service providers, patients, and their families.” Diane: Fantastic.
