The initial RCT published on physician coaching in JAMA in 2019 showing that coaching improves quality of life. We make a diagnosis. I see this in the hospital when I’m doing addiction medicine consults. But back in 2019, there was a lot of disagreement in our group about whether for a patient with cancer and cancer related pain and a substance use disorder, whether palliative care was the appropriate specialty to care for those patients.
