In 2013, only 56 percent of Americans owned a smartphone, which climbed to around 90% by now. Self-surveillance solutions, disease guides, educational apps as well as telehealth platforms appeared naturally in dermatology in the past decade. That’s what smartphone apps developed for physicians aim to go against.

Since 2013, ABIM Specialty Boards have been required to include at least one physician member primarily engaged in community practice, defined broadly in applications as “clinical practice in a non-university, community setting.” The group discussed evolving trends in telehealth and how to capture that as a category of community practice.
