Parvovirus B19 is not routinely screened for in pregnancy, but vertical transmission can cause hydrops fetalis, stillbirth, and severe fetal anemia. One review identified about 129 cases of parvovirus-related neurologic complications between 1970 and 2012, with encephalitis making up about two-thirds of those cases.
