This story goes back to the 2009 Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, which prohibits manufacturers from selling any “new tobacco product” without authorization from FDA. FDA failed on each count.

About half of patients who are over the age of 65 start dialysis with a GFR of over 9, which is sort of the level below which we have clinical trial evidence for suggesting that there may not be a benefit to starting at that level of GFR.
