I joined SCPMG straight from residency in 2006. Access is so important because that is the reason the patient signs up with health insurance is so that they can get care, whether primary or specialty. We have to get that right or else the patient [is] going to go to a different entity or a different insurance company.

Through a series of events, I started working as a consultant to the Department of Corrections in around 2006, and I was assigned to the California Medical Facility. But if the services that they require aren’t able to be provided within, they have Health Net as their insurance, so we contract with specialists in the community.

Started as a direct case manager, worked in a variety of different places including the state legislature and I’ve been with the state office now since 2006. It was designed to really balance what Medicaid at the time was to provide nursing homes and Medicare is obviously health insurance. Eric: And Susan? You go back home.
