I joined SCPMG straight from residency in 2006. Access is so important because that is the reason the patient signs up with health insurance is so that they can get care, whether primary or specialty. We have to get that right or else the patient [is] going to go to a different entity or a different insurance company.

Through a series of events, I started working as a consultant to the Department of Corrections in around 2006, and I was assigned to the California Medical Facility. We also talk about the eligibility for the unit, what makes it run including the interdisciplinary team and the inmate peer workers, and the topic of compassionate release.
